Android Developer

Heirloom is seeking a virtual Android Developer for an exciting consumer technology startup.  The Android Developer is responsible for building and maintaining the client side of Heirloom’s Android mobile application and contributing to continuous integration and continuous development (CI/CD).  The Android Developer reports to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and works closely with the technology team.  The Android Developer is intuitive, curious, and motivated to develop great technology.  If you have proven experience in building Android applications, we’d like to meet you. 

Responsibilities:

  • Use your own laptop/desktop and internet connection as your work center
  • Design and build advanced applications for the Android platform
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
  • Work with outside data sources and APIs
  • Unit-test code for robustness, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability
  • Work on bug fixing and improving application performance
  • Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies
  • Optimize application for maximum speed
  • Translate designs and wireframes into high quality code
  • Collaborate with back-end developers to improve usability
  • Get feedback from, and build solutions for, users and customers
  • Write functional requirement documents and guides
  • Help back-end developers with coding and troubleshooting
  • Ensure high quality graphic standards and brand consistency
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies
  • Participate in agile project management standup meetings
  • Make recommendations regarding technology strategy
  • Engage with the leadership team as required

Skills:

  • Proven software development experience and Android skills development
  • Proven working experience in Android app development
  • Have published at least one original Android app
  • Experience with Android SDK
  • Experience working with remote data via REST and JSON
  • Experience with third-party libraries and APIs
  • Knowledge of the general mobile landscape, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies
  • Solid understanding of the full mobile development life cycle
  • Understanding of layout aesthetics
  • Proficient in Google Workplace
  • Familiarity with core elements of Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Familiarity with browser testing and debugging
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite and content management systems (CMS)
  • Excellent analytical and multitasking skills
  • Flexibility to work on a rapidly evolving schedule
  • High school diploma; BS/BA in computer science preferred

Job Type:  Remote.  Contract, part-time, full-time, and equity positions considered.

Pay:  Negotiable, but starting at $40.00 per hour equivalent.
